Emili Blackwell is a counseling intern currently pursuing a master’s in professional counseling at Texas State University. She received her bachelor’s from Texas A&M University in psychology with a minor in English. Her background in both psychology and English fostered a deep understanding of the ways language, identity, and mental health are interconnected – an insight that is foundational to her therapeutic lens.
Emili’s approach to counseling is grounded in narrative therapy. She views problems as separate from the individual and collaborates with clients to examine the stories that influence their identities, relationships, and well-being. By identifying and amplifying strengths, values, and preferred ways of being, she supports clients in developing narratives that foster resilience, growth, and empowerment.
Emili works from a holistic perspective that recognizes the complexities of human experiences and the importance of the social systems in which people live. She acknowledges how family, community, culture, and broader social contexts influence identity, and mental health, and incorporates this awareness into the therapeutic process. She has particular clinical interests in working with veterans and first responders, survivors of trauma (including sexual assault and domestic violence), and individuals navigating perinatal mental health concerns such as birth trauma, grief, and infertility. Her practice is guided by a commitment to creating a safe, supportive, and collaborate therapeutic space where clients can process their experiences and move toward healing.
Emili Blackwell is supervised by Mikayla McMurtray, LPC, LMFT.
