Kate Coneys is a counseling intern completing her final practicum at Samaritan Center while she finishes her Master of Science in Social Work at The University of Texas at Austin.
Kate is committed to using a person-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally humble approach to empower clients and help them move towards healing. She views mental health through a systemic lens and believes in the importance of evaluating an individual’s physical, spiritual, and emotional health, as well as broader contexts such as their family, community, and culture.
Kate’s experience in the field spans both clinical practice and research. In her clinical work prior to graduate school, Kate has worked in direct client care at an inpatient psychiatric facility centered around disordered eating recovery, and also served as a volunteer working with children and families undergoing the process of child abuse investigation. Additionally, she completed her first practicum at Any Baby Can where she gained experience working with children, youth, and parents to foster healing through resource connection, support groups, and individual therapy. She has also worked as a research assistant for many years and has primarily been engaged in studying therapeutic processes and outcomes, with a specific focus on clinician cultural humility.
She possesses a bachelor’s degree from University of Colorado Boulder where she double majored in psychology and integrative physiology. Given her studies, Kate is extremely interested in the brain-body connection and how mental and physical health interact. Kate is excited to broaden her clinical experience during her time at Samaritan Center and looks forward to working with people from a variety of backgrounds.
Kate Coneys is supervised by Stephanie Martinez, LCSW.
