Maria Francis is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, who earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from the University of Texas Pan American in 2008. She earned her graduate degree in Marriage & Family Therapy from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, TX in 2012.
During her graduate studies, she provided counseling in Spanish for the Latino community and conducted 8-hour Premarital Workshops at the Family Life Center in San Antonio. Maria Francis also provided counseling for children and families at the Family Life Center with the Shertz-Cibolo Independent District.
Following graduation, Maria Francis began her journey with inpatient care at Abilene Behavioral and Austin Oaks Hospital, where she gained experience working with adults and adolescents experiencing mental health concerns. She conducted group therapy, individual therapy, and family therapy. At Austin Oaks Hospital, she discovered her passion for family therapy with families experiencing crisis and traumatic events and gained experience helping them find healthier ways to overcome together.
Her next journey began with the Children Advocacy Centers where she provided counseling for children and parents dealing with trauma related to sexual, emotional, and physical abuse. She gained experience helping parents find a new normal and ways to stay connected to their children after a traumatic event.
Maria Francis has gained experience with mental health concerns, including trauma, abuse, anxiety, depression, and family life transitions through inpatient care and non-profit organizations. She works from a solution-focused, trauma focused cognitive behavioral, and family systems perspective. In her sessions, she believes in meeting her clients where they are in their healing journey.
