Kathy Barrett’s life experiences led her into the counseling field in the mid 1990’s. After a career in workforce development, Kathy chose to realign her education with her interests in helping people meet the challenges life presents and overcoming the barriers to an improved quality of life we all seek. Kathy earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling and her Education Specialist Degree in Career Counseling in 1996 from Florida State University. She returned to Austin and affiliated with the Samaritan Counseling Center where she completed her internship and became a Licensed Professional Counselor. She has maintained her practice at the center since that time.
Kathy enjoys helping her clients identify and address the gaps in their lives between how things are and how they want them to be. Often clients are experiencing depression, anxiety, feelings of powerlessness and being overwhelmed, confusion regarding life choices, relationship issues, career issues, and feeling stuck. Many life transitions are not initiated by our conscious choice, but we do choose our response to them. Positive life changes result from connecting with the authentic self. Kathy assists her clients in this change process.
